VFW Post 2113 History

The De Pere VFW Post 2113 was founded on December 7, 1935 when 64 De Pere area World War 1 (WWI - the Great War) veterans got together and collectively decided to band together to provide everlasting support to all veterans, their families and the community we live in.

VFW Post 2113

Since that time De Pere VFW Post 2113 has held to those starting values. The Post's Honor Guard provides approximately 100 military funeral honors for deceased veterans of all branches of service each year, has led the Kiwanis Club of De Pere's Memorial Day Parade (the largest parade on Wisconsin) for the past 35 years, has been honored to present the flag colors at every West De Pere Phantoms and De Pere Redbirds varsity football home games, and many, many other local community events.

The Post has also donated thousands of dollars annually to many veterans and community fundraising events. The Post takes great pride in supporting our adopted U.S. Army Reserve unit that is based in Green Bay – the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion (CAB) and their Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG) through joint events, creating and mailing care packages with their soldiers are deployed and providing educational opportunities for the soldiers and their families through an established scholarship at the local Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Leo Frigo

Korean War Vet (July 3, 1931 - February 13, 2001)

Leo was active in many community volunteer activities and in 1984 Leo founded Paul's Pantry. Today Paul's Pantry serves over 5 million pounds of food annually to local community members in need.  This outstanding effort is being accomplished by hundreds of volunteers who spend over 67,000 total annual hours working at Paul's Pantry and/or collecting food from area donations. Because of those efforts, on June 1, 2002 the State of Wisconsin and Brown County overwhelmingly voted to re-name the I-43 Tower bridge over the Fox River as the "Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge."
